One Day Gorilla Tracking from Kisoro Town – Mgahinga N. Park: If you are short on time but still wish to experience the thrill of meeting the endangered mountain gorillas, a one-day gorilla tracking tour from Kisoro town to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is the perfect option.

Itinerary Overview

  • Early Morning Pick-up: The day begins with an early breakfast at your hotel in Kisoro. At around 6:30 am, you will be driven to Ntebeko Visitor Center, the main entrance of Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, just about 30-45 minutes away.

  • Briefing and Group Allocation: On arrival, you’ll join other trekkers for a briefing from the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) rangers. You will learn about gorilla trekking rules, safety guidelines, and the gorilla family you’ll be tracking- most commonly the Nyakagezi family of 10 Members with 3 Silverback Gorillas, the only habituated gorilla group in Mgahinga.

  • Gorilla Trekking Adventure: After the briefing, you’ll begin the trek into the lush forest of the Virunga Volcanoes. Trekking can take between 2 to 6 hours, depending on the movement of the gorillas. Along the way, expect to encounter beautiful vegetation, bird species, and perhaps other primates.

  • Gorilla Encounter: Once you find the gorillas, you are allowed one full hour to observe them. Watch as they feed, play, groom each other, or rest. This is often described as one of the most emotional and unforgettable wildlife experiences in the world.

  • Return and Transfer Back: After your magical hour with the gorillas, you’ll trek back to Ntebeko, receive your tracking certificate, and then drive back to Kisoro town, arriving in the afternoon.
