Day 2: Golden Monkey Trekking
Golden monkeys inhabit the Virunga Volcanoes, shared among Uganda, Rwanda, and DR Congo. After an early breakfast, your driver-guide will transfer you to the briefing point for golden monkey trekking. A ranger guide will provide information on what to expect in the park as you search for these active primates.
The trek can be steep, so hiring a porter is recommended. Enforcement officers will accompany you for safety in case of encounters with wild buffaloes or elephants. The golden monkeys are lively and will be followed as they move and feed. Like gorilla trekking, you will spend one hour with the golden monkeys before descending back to the starting point and your lodge. They enjoy feeding on bamboo shoots, fruits, vegetation, and sometimes ants.

Day 3: Batwa Trail
The Batwa are an indigenous tribe that lived in the forests of the Virunga Volcanoes before the area became a national park. Today, you will meet some of the Batwa who will guide you through the forest, sharing how they lived, hunted, and coexisted with the wildlife.
The “Batwa Trail,” developed in collaboration with the Uganda Wildlife Authority, offers insights into their traditional lifestyle. The proceeds from this tour help fund land purchases and building projects for Batwa families.
