Short tours guide
Not every traveller has two weeks to spare. You may be in East Africa for business, adding a safari to a conference in Kigali or Kampala, or simply wanting a focused trip to see the mountain gorillas. Our short tours are designed for exactly that. In two to four days they deliver the highlights of Uganda and Rwanda, from gorilla trekking in Bwindi, Mgahinga or Volcanoes National Park to golden monkeys, wildlife game drives, boat cruises and city tours.
Kamere Tours is based in Kisoro, close to the Uganda–Rwanda border and the gorilla parks, so we know how to make the most of limited time. We plan realistic driving days, secure permits in advance and arrange comfortable stays close to the trailheads, so you spend your time on experiences rather than logistics.
Kigali is the most convenient gateway for short gorilla trips. Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park is a scenic drive from the city, and Uganda’s Mgahinga and the southern sectors of Bwindi are also within reach. Choose the 3-day Rwanda gorilla trekking safari, the 2-day gorilla trekking safari from Kigali to Uganda or the 3-day Bwindi gorilla trek from Kigali.
If you have four days, you can add golden monkey tracking to your gorilla trek. Golden monkeys are lively, photogenic primates found in the bamboo forests of the Virunga volcanoes. Our 4-day Uganda gorilla and golden monkey trek and 4-day Batwa Trail and golden monkey tour combine primates with culture in Mgahinga. Read more in our golden monkey trekking guide.
For savannah wildlife, the 3-day Queen Elizabeth National Park adventure includes game drives and a boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, while the 3-day Murchison Falls safari adds rhino tracking at Ziwa and a launch trip on the Nile.
Our Kigali city tour is ideal for a free day before or after a business trip, with history, markets, art and local food.
A typical two- or three-day gorilla tour follows a simple plan. On day one, your driver-guide collects you from Kigali or your hotel and drives to your lodge near the park, with stops for lunch and views along the way. On day two, you rise early for the ranger briefing, trek to your assigned gorilla family and spend one hour with them before returning to the lodge. On a three-day trip you have time to relax, visit a community project or add another activity before driving back. On a two-day trip you return to Kigali the same afternoon.
Because the schedule is tight, timing matters. We plan around border crossing hours, briefing times and road conditions, and we always keep a buffer so you never feel rushed on trekking day.
Kigali and Kampala host many international conferences and business meetings. A short safari is a rewarding way to extend your trip. We can collect you directly from your hotel or conference venue, keep in touch on WhatsApp, and work around your meeting schedule. If you have a single free day, a city tour or a visit to a nearby attraction may suit you better than a gorilla trek; just ask and we will suggest options.
Our shortest gorilla tours take two days, starting from Kigali or from Kisoro. A one-day trip is possible in some cases but involves very long driving hours, so we usually recommend at least one night near the park.
Yes. Any short tour can be extended with extra nights, a second gorilla trek, golden monkeys, a canoe trip on Lake Mutanda or Lake Bunyonyi, or a visit to Queen Elizabeth National Park.
Yes. All short tours are private, with your own vehicle and driver-guide.
Most nationalities need a visa for each country they enter. The East Africa Tourist Visa can be convenient if you are visiting both Uganda and Rwanda. Always check the current requirements for your passport.
Day 1: morning pick-up in Kigali and scenic drive to the park area, with lunch on the way and an evening at your lodge. Day 2: early briefing, gorilla trek and one hour with the family, then the drive back to Kigali in the afternoon.
Day 1: transfer from Kigali or Kisoro to your lodge. Day 2: gorilla trekking, followed by an afternoon community walk or rest. Day 3: optional morning activity such as a canoe trip on Lake Mutanda, then return.
Day 1: arrival and transfer to Kisoro. Day 2: gorilla trekking in Mgahinga or southern Bwindi. Day 3: golden monkey tracking and the Batwa Trail. Day 4: relaxed morning and return transfer.
Short tours typically include private transport with a driver-guide, accommodation, meals while on safari, park entry and the activities listed in the itinerary. Gorilla permits can be included or quoted separately depending on availability. Every quote we send lists exactly what is included and excluded, so there are no surprises.
For Volcanoes National Park, Mgahinga and southern Bwindi, Kigali is usually the most convenient arrival point. For northern Bwindi, Queen Elizabeth or Murchison Falls, Entebbe is often better. Tell us where you are arriving from and how much time you have, and we will recommend the most efficient route.
As early as possible. Gorilla permits are limited, so booking several months ahead gives you the best choice of dates, sectors and lodges, especially between June and September and over the December holidays.
